The NATIONAL CHAMBER OF FISHERIES understand the training and development of capacities of the crew as a process aimed at improving skills related to the development of sustainable fishing management.
The content of the trainings is formulated in four modules that allow to provide technical concepts; as well as the main actions to be carried out on board, adding up 10 academic hours. For this reason, we have set ourselves the goal of training personnel on board 38 vessels of the partner companies and related to the SPS-FIP, setting the goal of training the crew of 31 vessels members of the project during 2021.
The training modules are as follows:
Its specific objectives are that crew members can:
1. Understand basic concepts of marine ecology
2. Know the concept of sustainable fishing, an ecosystem approach to fishing and how to develop it on board
3. Correctly identify the target fish species of the Ecuadorian small pelagic fishery
4. Know the importance of monitoring fishing activity and the ecosystem
5. Make the correct registration of the capture composition tab
Its specific objectives are that crew members can:
1. Learn about the biology and ecology of seabirds, marine mammals, sea turtles and elasmobranchs.
2. Develop skills for the correct identification of seabirds, marine mammals, sea turtles and elasmobranchs.
3. Identify marine fauna according to its category of extinction risk (List IUCN).
4. Make the correct record of the record of marine megafauna sightings.
Its specific objectives are that crew members can:
1. Know the correct techniques for handling and releasing marine megafauna, bycatch, during fishing.
2. Sensitize the crew to reduce bycatch mortality.
3. Record each incident on the marine megafauna release form of the Ecuadorian small pelagic fishery.
Its specific objectives are that the crew can:
1. Identify and know the main threats in the marine ecosystem.
2. Know the types of pollutants and the impacts of pollution on the marine environment.
3. Correctly segregate waste on board.
4. Raise awareness about the impact of marine pollution and the importance of caring for the marine ecosystem.
